Dapwood joined almost 100 other volunteers on a brisk but sunny Saturday morning to help clean up part of the Rio Grande Bosque (forest in Spanish). In an unofficial poll, Dapwood was the most productive of the groups since we hauled in 4 tires, 1 kiddie pool, 1 radiator fan, 1/2 dozen golf balls, 2 bags of recycling and 4 bags of misc trash. We were a little too good at finding tires. Several […]

Texas family finds large beetle in kitchen table
Another reason to know where your furniture is coming from… A family in Texas bought a kitchen table made over seas. After using the table for several months, a large beetle emerged from the table. It had eaten its way out and was looking for another place to live. Supposedly U.S. Department of Agriculture officials say the teak trunk borer from South China could not survive in the U.S. but past disasters with exotic plants and animals creates cause […]

Dapwood in the News- Local IQ: Albuquerque’s Intelligent Alternative
Dapwood Furniture Co. is in this week’s Local IQ “The Green Issue“. I was quoted “We’re leaving the world kind of a mess. I see momentum, but I don’t know if it’s fast enough. I think businesses need to be a driver on sustainability”. Photographers came out as well but they didn’t have enough room for it so I was cut. 😉
Benefit Corporation Legislation Dead in New Mexico
For unknown reasons, New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez became the first governor in the U.S. to veto Benefit Corporation legislation. Since she did not sign the bill and allowed it to die, the office doesn’t provide any explanation as to why she didn’t sign it even though it had overwhelming bi-partisan support in both the House and Senate. This was very frustrating for Dapwood because it was good legislation that would help small businesses in […]

For the full interview and blog follow this link I also encourage you to browse the website, which includes information and useful tools on green living and environmental health.
Benefit Corporation Legislation Update (HB40)
After passing two NM House Committees and an overwhelming positive House Floor vote, HB40 New Mexico Benefit Corporation Legislation passed through the second Senate Committee last night! The bill is now off to the Senate Floor for vote and if all goes well there, up to the Governor’s office for signature. It has been an interesting experience for me to see how our legislative process really works in New Mexico. This years Legislative session is ending […]
Dapwood in the News- Green Fire Times
Dapwood has an article in Green Fire Times newspaper this week! Hopefully the article is informative and explains further how Dapwood is dancing to the beat of a different drummer- something we sometimes call “Business as UN-usual”. The newspaper is here but if you want to only see the article, click here.
Why we get up in the morning?
For the last several months, I have been working with 10 bright and motivated children at New Mexico International School. We have been learning about woodworking (wood, tools, safety, etc) as well as the importance of all kinds of creatures in our environment (bees, bats, ants, birds). In our discussions, it was obvious that they all wanted to help out the misunderstood bat. So, we all worked really hard to create bat houses out of […]
