New stuff

Personally (and also as a company) we are always working toward being more and more sustainable. It’s one of those things that is a journey and not a destination. One of the items that has always bothered us is the small pieces of wood that fall-off or had to be cut off because of knots or cracks. It is perfectly good and beautiful wood but you can’t really stretch or glue end grain together. For […]

Show us yours

We just did a photo shoot at a customer’s house in the East Mountain area of Albuquerque.  It is a wonderful custom home with great details. This got us thinking….over the years we have received photos of our products in customers homes. Here is one with our frame installed with casters. Here is one with my boys testing the sturdiness of our frames. Wouldn’t it be fun to get a glimpse into other people’s creative […]

Business Leaders Round Table

We at Dapwood are seriously concerned about our atmospheric future.  Everyday we see examples of global climate change. The Southwest is in the middle of a major drought, the Midwest and East are being blasted by polar vortices, the South is stricken with ice storms and super storms, and the West is being hit with mud slides. We see dramatic changes occurring rapidly in a lifetime.  Luckily, we are not alone and there are facts to document these […]

Or else….

Another El Santuario de Chimayo photo. This sculpture is riddled with (dark) questions for me. Why is the Native American dressed in Plains Indians’ dress? Why is the Native American so much shorter than the European looking man? Why are the Native American’s arms in the air? Surrender? Worship? Why is the Native American’s hand missing?

El Santuario de Chimayo

On a trip to northern New Mexico, we stopped at El Santuario de Chimayo. It is said the holy dirt has cured cancer, infertility, and other afflictions. I was simply hoping it would help with my lingering flu bug!

Another day in (Wisconsin) paradise

Over the holidays we encountered more snow in 3 days in Wisconsin than we have seen in 10 years total in New Mexico! Sconnies know how to take it in stride. Schools would have been open except for the -40F wind chills.

Patterns of Light

I was lucky enough to get an early birthday present and had an afternoon photography workshop at the Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite. Even with all of the incredible landscapes in every direction we took a break and decided to look at patterns in basswood leaves.

Backyard visitor

Another photo that I thought was interesting. I believe it is a Rocky Mountain Locust but I am by no means an insect expert. I thought it was interesting how he (or she) decided to hang out on an old rusty post which looks like it was painted to match.

Tree Hug

It is hard to describe just how big the Sequoia trees really are….and photos just don’t do them justice. They are so majestic and add so much to our world that they need a big ol’ hug as a sign of our gratitude. I guess we are tree huggers both literally and figuratively.

And now for something different…photography

I thought I would try something a little different. Several of us at Dapwood like to dabble in photography so I thought it might be fun to add to our site different photos that we took with the hope that others might enjoy. The following photo is of one of the “small” sequoias on an afternoon hike. This photo was taken just before we had an exciting encounter with a black bear looking for dinner.
