Sustainability

What does sustainability mean to you? Taking public transportation or carpooling to work? Walking or riding a bike to do errands? Turning off unused electronics? Growing some of your own food? Installing high efficiency light bulbs? If so, we commend you in your efforts and hope it inspires others to do the same.

Definition of Sustainability

sustainable means to create and maintain conditions, under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony, that permit fulfilling the social, economic and other requirements of present and future generations of Americans.Presidential Executive Order 13423

Wow, that’s a mouthful. To us at Dapwood we have a simpler definition- sustainability means operating in a way that minimizes our negative impacts on our environment and community while maximizing our positive impacts.

Sustainability Challenges

We wish we could say we are done or that we are operating as sustainably as possible. Smart stewardship is a constantly moving target, however, and we will always be chasing this goal. New technology and knowledge always changes what is possible and what is considered best practices with complex issues. For now, we are doing all that we can and are making an impact on ‘business as usual’ and challenge you to make a difference as well.

Sustainability Efforts

Rest easy knowing that we don’t just talk about green or sustainability as buzzwords- we do it. We will readily admit it isn’t easy- there is often no black or white types of answers. It takes time to evaluate and be reflective but it is vitally important to all of us. For Dapwood at this point in time, there are three major goals of our sustainability effort.
